New Laws
New Criminal Laws in India
From 1st July 2024, the Government of India has implemented three new criminal laws, replacing the century-old colonial laws (IPC, CrPC, and Indian Evidence Act). These new laws are designed to ensure speedy justice, victim-centric approach, and modern investigation methods.
– Replaces the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
– Focuses on defining and punishing criminal acts with stronger provisions for crimes against women, children, and national security.
– Replaces the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
– Emphasizes time-bound investigation and trials, use of technology (like e-FIR, video trials), and improved citizen-friendly policing.
– Replaces the Indian Evidence Act.
– Strengthens the system of admissible evidence, including digital and electronic records, making trials more effective and transparent.
